From the bootleggers who smuggled moonshine across state lines to the women’s suffrage movement that helped to secure the right to vote, the Roaring Twenties caused quite a commotion. Another highlight of the ’20s that exemplified change was the evolution of women’s hairstyles. Ladies were saying goodbye to their long Victorian locks and welcoming much shorter what is fashion hairdos. The mass appeal of this trend wasn’t accepted by many salons, so barbers became the go-to for 1920s hairdressing . Armed with close-cutting scissors known as shears, these bold women were in well-trained hands. Elaborate and expensive jewels worn as headpieces added a feminine touch.

Rachel’s or Molly’s: Which hairstyles did you love from these 90’s celebrities?

Ghost starred in by Moore along with actors Patrick Swayze, Tony Goldwyn and Whoopi Goldberg raked in more than $500 million in the box office upon release and, more than likely, inspired a horde of short-haired Molly lookalikes and wannabes (including this author) in the early 90s. Four years later, another hairstyle trend swept Hollywood like a storm when the hit TV series Friends introduced fans to the lovable, fashionable and ultra funny Rachel Green ( Jennifer Aniston ) and her famous layered locks. During the sitcoms tenth season, the show became so successful, Rachels hairstyle included, that Aniston and her lead co-stars were ultimately paid a whopping $1 million per episode. Many Gen X stars, women especially, experimented with their locks and inspired us, fans and mere spectators, to be a little bit more fun and daring to do the same. Here are some of the most memorable hairstyles our favorite Gen X celebrities sported more than a decade ago – the ones that made us look more than twice at our own locks, perhaps moving our inner spirits to dream and dare. If you copied Mollys or Rachels or even Gen X icon Madonnas famous hairdos during the 80s and 90s, raise your hands and tousle your hair for daring to reinvent yourself for a moment or two. Or well, until your hair grew back.
